Tour: JOHN BUTLER TRIO
Dates: Sunday 18 March 2018
The John Butler Trio, one of Australia’s most recognised and accomplished roots rock bands, will be bringing their incredible live show to the beautiful surrounds of Leura Park Estate, Geelong, in what promises to be the ultimate afternoon of tunes and chill amongst the vines, this coming March. They will be joined by NSW’s Kim Churchill and divine duo Mama Kin Spender.
John Butler is undeniably the most successful independent artist in Australia. His band, the John Butler Trio, have sold out a myriad of performances over the years in Australia and have gone on to take their music worldwide. John Butler has an impressive one million album sales to his name, has been the No. 1 most played artist on Australian radio and has numerous ARIA awards to write home about.
Having played on countless festivals across the globe, John Butler Trio are in constant demand. Their recent ARIA award winning album, Flesh & Blood, was released globally in February 2014. This then took them to sold out shows in Australia, Europe & North America, then remarkably saw them play their largest ever headline ticketed show at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre (Colorado) in front of nearly 10,000 people. John Butler Trio continues to capture their fans and take them on an organic journey.
Kim Churchill’s follow-up to his breakout LP, 2014’s Silence/Win, is LP Weight_Falls, a kaleidoscopic collection that is bound to take both fans and critics by surprise.
Those familiar with Kim Churchill’s radio smash Window to The Sky, which reached number 42 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2014, will recognise signature elements in these new recordings: intricate guitar work, intuitive vocal melodies and a wonderful feeling of space and warmth. New single Second Hand Car is immediately identifiable as Kim Churchill’s with its retro keys, propulsive guitar line and rousing chant-a-long chorus.
After touring Silence//Win around Australia in 2014 and 2015, he embarked on a series of high- adrenaline overseas trips that included performances at the Glastonbury and Telluride Blues Festivals and adventures in the Peruvian Andes and along the coast of Sri Lanka.
“I just want to write music to entertain and to move people and to be the soundtrack to their lives,” he says. “I want to become a figure in the world that helps people see that it's all ok, and the world is what it is – the best and worst parts of it.”
Mama Kin Spender is a lightning bolt moment between two long-time friends, co-writers and mischief-makers: ARIA-nominated Mama Kin and producer Tommy Spender. It’s a stripped back duo of brooding guitars, primal drums and howling harmonies, illuminated by a chorus of singers arranged by Virginia Bott (Brighter Later, First Chorus Band of Singers). Mama Kin Spender’s songs rattle, roll and tremble, from block party to heart rending ballad. With a sound that is as raw as it is joyful, Mama Kin Spender will challenge you to raise your voice in defiance of the status quo.
This is the first of its kind at Leura Park Estate, a concert you don’t want to miss. Make it a date for this ideal Sunday session with some of Australia’s finest artists and musicians.
